Before the Year Ends

Don't Let Your Dental Benefits Expire

Most dental plans reset on January 1, and whatever you have not used simply disappears. It does not roll over, and you cannot get it back. If you have treatment you have been putting off, this is the cheapest time of year to have it done.

December books up quickly every year. If you want an appointment before the reset, earlier is easier.

Not sure what you have left?

You do not need to work it out yourself. Call us and our reception team can help you check where your plan stands and what it will cover.

For anything substantial we can send a pre-determination to your insurer first — a written answer on what they will pay and what your share would be, before you commit to anything.

How dental benefits actually work

Most plans give you an annual maximum — a ceiling on what the insurer will pay in a benefit year. Whatever you do not use is gone when the year turns over. Unlike a bank balance, none of it carries forward.

That means if you have treatment that has been sitting on your plan — a crown that was recommended, a filling that keeps getting postponed, a cleaning you skipped — having it done before the reset uses money that would otherwise vanish.

One honest caveat: not every plan runs on the calendar year. Some reset on your employment anniversary or another date entirely. Give us a call and we will help you find out which applies to you rather than guessing.

If your maximum will not stretch far enough

This happens often with larger restorative work, and there are usually ways around it.

And if treatment genuinely can wait, we will tell you that too. We would rather you trusted our advice than felt pushed into using up a maximum.

Check your coverage before it resets

A two-minute phone call tells you where you stand. We are at 805 W Broadway, Suite 905 — free parking in the building, and we direct bill most major insurers.

Coverage varies by plan. Nothing here is a guarantee of what your insurer will pay — we will confirm your specific benefits with you before treatment begins.
